On the opening day of NLL free agency, the San Diego Seals announced that the team has agreed to terms with four players, including returners Connor Kearnan and Dylan Riley.
“We are excited to have these guys back for the 2020-21 campaign,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “We are glad they chose to re-sign in San Diego and can’t wait to see them compete for spots at training camp.”
Kearnan, 23, has appeared in 20 games in Seals history recording 13 goals, 30 points and 54 loose balls. As a second-year player, he notched back-to-back two-goal games against Vancouver and Saskatchewan, and helped lead San Diego to the team’s first win of the season over the Warriors on December 29. The Courtice, Ontario native was drafted 11th overall by the Seals in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft.
Riley, 23, appeared in one game for Seals in his first year with the club. The 6-5, 250-pound righty has recorded one point in three career NLL games with San Diego and Rochester. Riley signed as a free agent with the Seals ahead of the 2019-20 season.
The Seals have also agreed to terms with forward Jay Carlson and defenseman Noah Richard. Carlson played college lacrosse at the University of Maryland where he won the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team. Richard was the team captain at Marquette where he was named First Team All-Big East in 2019. As a recognition for his defensive abilities, Richard was also named 2019 Big East Defensive Player of the Year.
“Both Carlson and Richard had great college careers and have proven their abilities in the outdoor game,” said Merrill. “Carlson has great hands and a natural goal scoring ability, while Richard is a big, strong defender who can also be a threat in transition. We look forward to seeing their talents on the floor.”
