(SAN DIEGO, CA – March 6, 2019) The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Paul Dawson, the younger brother of assistant captain Dan Dawson, from the Rochester Knighthawks, pending league approval.
“Paul is a player we’ve been targeting for a long time,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “He has won multiple championships in this league and brings more stability to our defense. He’s been a top defender in the league for a number of years and is highly regarded for his versatility and his toughness.”
Dawson, 33, has recorded three assists, 34 loose balls, 18 penalty minutes and caused five turnovers in 10 games for the Knighthawks this season. The 13-year NLL veteran spent the last six years playing for Rochester and won back-to-back championships with the club (2013-14).
The 6-5, 220-pound righty was the seventh overall pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. Dawson will play alongside his brother, Dan, for the fourth time in his career in San Diego.
San Diego sent a second-round pick in 2020 and a conditional second-round pick in 2022.
Dawson will join the team in Denver when the Seals take on the Colorado Mammoth this Sat., Mar. 9 at 6:00 PM PST. The team returns home to Pechanga Arena San Diego on Sat., Mar. 16 for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Reserve your seats today at SealsLax.com.
