(UNIONDALE, NY – Jan. 25, 2020) – The San Diego Seals defeated the New York Riptide on Saturday night at NYCB Live. San Diego’s eight second-half goals led the Seals to a season-high 15-11 victory on the road.
In a full team-effort, ten different Seals’ players found the back of the net, while 12 different players made their way onto the score sheet. Rookie goaltender Nick Damude made his first career start, earned his first career win and made 36 saves on the night.
“It was nice to see Damude get his first win tonight,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “I thought we started well and played with good energy on both ends of the floor. We loosened up in the second quarter, but I thought we played Seals lacrosse in the second half. It was nice to get a big win on the road against a good team.”
Forwards Wesley Berg and Connor Fields led the Seals’ offense, each finishing with five points on the night. Forward Zack Greer continued his hot streak, scoring six goals in the past two games. Defenseman Cam Holding registered his first two-goal game in the purple and gold, while rookie defenseman Matt Sykes recorded his first multi-point effort.
“We’re looking to carry this momentum into next weekend,” continued Merrill. “I feel like we continue to get better every night we’re out there and we’re in a place to put us back in this race. We’re happy to get this win tonight, and it’s a step in the right direction.”
