(HALIFAX – Jan. 18, 2020) – The San Diego Seals’ goaltending and defense were strong in an 8-5 defeat at Scotiabank Centre on Saturday night against the Halifax Thunderbirds. Goaltender Frank Scigliano was the backbone of the Seals defensive unit as he stopped 33 shots on the night.
“It was our best effort of the season so far,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “We just couldn’t capitalize on our chances in critical moments of the game, which seems to be the story of our season so far. It was a hard-fought game on the floor by both teams.”
General manager and head coach Patrick Merrill credited the Seals goaltender for his role in the staunch defense.
“Frank kept us in the game all night,” continued Merrill. “He and our defense did a good job of holding the fort down, [Halifax] just ended up making a few more plays when it mattered, and that’s what it came down to in the end.”
Halifax scored equal goals in the fourth quarter (4) than it scored in the first three frames combined. Forward Zack Greer registered a hat trick on the night, and San Diego’s penalty kill was successful on five out of six opportunities.
