It’s a battle of first-place teams as the San Diego Seals are in Canada to take on the Toronto Rock on Friday at Scotiabank Arena at 4:30 PM PST.
“We have a really tough opponent in Toronto,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “They’re the best team in the league right now. We’ve shown that we’re a good team, we just have to get back to playing the way we know how to play.”
Veteran forward Dan Dawson has posted 11 points in the last three games and is riding a six-game goal streak. Dawson and the rest of the offensive unit are hungry to get back on the floor on Friday night.
“You have to have a quick memory, whether you win or lose in this league,” said Dawson. “We have an unbelievable opportunity to see where we’re at and how we respond when we get knocked down. Toronto is the best team in the league currently, so there’s no excuse but to have our best effort out there.”
The Seals were victorious in their only other East Division match-up this season, topping the Rochester Knighthawks on Jan. 12 in San Diego’s inaugural home game. Refocusing on a disciplined and strategic game plan this weekend, San Diego is ready for the first-place challenge.
“We can’t let our emotions get the best of us,” continued Dawson. “We have to do a better job. Character is big for us and if we get into penalty trouble we’re going to be in big trouble against [the Rock].”
The San Diego Seals will host a watch party open to the public on Friday, Feb. 15 at Coronado Brewing Co. Tasting Room (1205 Knoxville St. / San Diego, CA 92110). Fans will be able to hang out with Salty and the Sirens, enjoy Coronado Brewing Co. food and drinks, buy Seals merchandise and watch as the Seals take on the Toronto Rock at 4:30 PM PST.
