The San Diego Seals will play the first home game in franchise history on Saturday night as the team takes on the Rochester Knighthawks at Pechanga Arena San Diego at 7:00 PM PST.
“We are all very excited for our inaugural season home-opener,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “We know the building will be electric and we are anxious to finally get to show off our team to our home crowd.”
The San Diego Seals enter the contest with a 1-2 record after winning the first game in franchise history on the road at Colorado. Rookie forward Austin Staats leads the team with nine goals and 17 points, while veteran goaltender Frank Scigliano holds a .791 save percentage and a 12.33 goals against average through three games.
This will be the first match-up for San Diego against an East Division opponent, and the only time the Seals and the Knighthawks will face-off in regular season play.
“Rochester is a tough opponent and we are hungry to get back to .500,” continued Merrill. “We know we need to be prepared for a battle and we believe we are going to bring a strong effort, and hopefully make our fans proud and send them home happy.”
Forward Garrett Billings made his Seals debut last week against Saskatchewan. In his first NLL game since 2017, Billings finished with two goals and four assists. The veteran righty is eager to get back on the floor on Saturday night, this time in front of the home crowd.
“We’ve been studying a lot of film and getting ready for [Rochester] this week,” said Billings. “They’ve changed their defense a lot since Matt Vinc left and are a different-looking team than Saskatchewan. We’re very excited to get out there for all the fans in San Diego.”
