The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has re-signed its leading goal-scorer from this past season, Zack Greer, to a one-year contract.
“Zack led our team in goals and was a very important presence in our locker room last season,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “He carries himself the way every professional athlete should. He’s diligent off the field and backs it up on the field. He’s a winner. We’re excited to have him back for another year to help us in our quest for the 2021 NLL Championship.”
Greer, 34, recorded 21 goals, 29 assists and 50 points in his first year out of retirement, ranking second in points among Seals players. The lefty registered five games with five or more points, including an eight-point performance on March 7 vs. Rochester in what proved to be the team’s last game in a pandemic-shortened year. Greer’s 50-point season is his best since 2016 with the Rush.
“I couldn’t be happier to sign on for another year with the Seals,” said Greer. “I have incredible respect for the leadership team and am grateful for the opportunity to compete for this first-class organization. We were building something special last year and it was disappointing to have it end the way it did. It’s a great group of guys in the locker room and we were just starting to find our rhythm, so I expect us to be dangerous in 2021. We have our minds set on bringing an NLL Championship to San Diego, and look forward to the challenge.”
Greer, the younger brother of defensive coordinator Bill Greer, enters his 10th NLL season. Before joining the Seals, he previously spent time with the Mammoth and Rush organizations. The Whitby, Ontario native was drafted third overall in the 2009 Entry Draft. Greer played college lacrosse at Duke University and was a two-time All-American (2007, 2008).
