Hey San Diegans, the Seals have officially surfaced! Showcasing the speed, intensity and energy of the National Lacrosse League, the team competed in an intersquad scrimmage in front of over 5,000 fans at Pechanga Arena San Diego.
“It was amazing playing in front of the fans in San Diego,” said rookie Austin Staats. “To have that many people come out just to watch us practice and scrimmage – the games are going to be crazy and the fans are going to love it.”
The gray team came out on top behind a dominant performance from goaltender Frank Scigliano, who held the purple team scoreless in the first quarter. Staats and Dan Dawson each netted a pair of goals in the 7-4 victory in a game that featured two quarters of action.
Forward Johnny Pearson put the purple team on the board in the second quarter, and transition player Adrian Sorichetti followed with an around-the-world goal.
“We’re really proud of this whole crew,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “We started off a little slow, but the boys really picked up the pace and showed off for the fans here in San Diego.”
The next chance for fans to see the San Diego Seals in action will be when they host their inaugural season home-opener on Saturday, January 12 at 7:00pm PST at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Single game tickets are now on sale at SealsLax.com.
